What is information? give an example with your answer
Information is data which has been processed, converted to give it meaning and given a structure (organised in some way). For example, a car travelling at 50mph.

What is knowledge? give an example with your answer
Knowledge is information which has had a set of rules applied to it, once this is done, decisions can be made on the information received. For example, the speed limit is 40mph so the car is travelling over the speed limit and is breaking the law.

Why do we encode data?
Coded data takes less effort to type in, More data can appear on screen, Takes up less storage space (less important as storage media is cheap), It is easier to check that the code is correct using validation checks
4 of 8
Give an example of encoding data
Mens clothes sizes: S- SMALL M-MEDIUM L-LARGE XL-EXTRA LARGE
5 of 8
What are the advantages of encoding data?
Takes up less memory, Faster to enter data, Should be fewer errors as less likely to enter incorrect data
6 of 8
What are the disadvantages of encoding data?
People may be confused over the code, Possible to run out of codes, Encoding makes the data less accurate i.e B may mean black but could mean brown or blue.
7 of 8
What is a value judgement?
Person entering the code has to make the judgement i.e one persons idea of something being dark brown may be black in someone else's eyes.
