The Romans come after the Greeks in the history of medicine.The Romans were invaders.As well as invading everywhere else in Europe and in North Africa,including Egypt they invaded Greece.

The similarities between the Greeks and Romans were that they both had the same ideas about medicine including Hippocrates,gods and even Asclepius. Medicine was centered around the home and herbal remedies were used by the women in the family.

The differences between the Greeks and Romans were that the Romans believed bad air caused disease so they built towns away from marshes.The Romans were also less bothered about doctors,they believed in prevention of a disease rather than a cure.

The public health systems they provided were public toilets,public baths,sewers,clean water,public fountains,aqueducts and free hospitals.

The Romans were able to create all the public health schemes because they were brilliant engineers and builders and they were rich as they took lots of taxes from the countries they controlled.

Roman public health was not all wonderful.Plagues often spread in the large cities of the Empire and when public health did not work,the Romans asked Asclepius for help.
