A state of political hostility between counrties, characterized by threats, propoganda and other measures short of open warfare

Who were the Superpowers previous to WW2?
Before WW2 there were several 'Great Powers' including Britain, France, Germany, The USA, Japan and the Soviet Union.

What happened post WW2 to the Great Powers?
Germany and Japan were defeated (seriously weakened). France had been defeated (lost status of 'Great Power'). Britain was victorious but almost bankrupt. USA and Soviet Union, stronger than ever!

POINT:- One feature of the Cold War was the propoganda used by both sides. EXPLANATION:- They used the media to give the worst possible image of the other side and influence public opinion.

A conflict fought between two sides, within the same country.
