lithosphere
the crust and upper mantle, it is the zone that the tectonic plates are formed
1 of 8
asthenosphere
the upper layer of the earths mantle, below the lithosphere. its a layer of solid rock that has so much pressure and heat the rocks flow like liquid
2 of 8
continental crust
35-70km thick, granite, silica and aluminium, more dense
3 of 8
Oceanic crust
5-10km thick, basaltic rock, silica and magnesium, less dense
4 of 8
Continental drift
the theory that continental land masses have changed position over
5 of 8
gravitational sliding
the movement of tectonic plates as a result of gravity
6 of 8
Ridge push
the high elevation at mid-ocean-ridge that causes gravity to push the lithosphere that is further from the ridge.
7 of 8
Slab pull
flowing subduction, the lithosphere sinks into the mantle under its own weight helping to pull the rest of the plate with it
