1944: The Butler Education Act
Conservative government, aimed at giving equal chance.
Resulting in the Tripartite System.
Children took the 11+ (testing ability) to assign them to one of the 3 schools

1965: The Comprehensive Act
Labour government, reorganisation of schools so all students would attend the same type of school. Promoting social mobility.
Parents would send their child to the school within their 'catchment area' (school closest to where they lived).

labour government, Aimed at improving basic skills needed for the workplace.
resulted in; youth training schemes, NVQ's and New Deal.

The privatisation of the education system advanced due to the increase in the number of schools run by private organisations.
