DISEASE

?
State four lifestyle factors that can affect your chances of getting CHD
1) Poor diet- foods high in saturated fat and salt 2)Smoking 3) Lack of exercise 4)Excessive alcohol intake
1 of 10
Describe 3 ways in which a pathogen may damage host cells (3marks)
1)Rupturing to release nutrients( protiens) 2) Breaking down nutrients inside cell fro own use which will eventually kill the cell 3) Replicating inside cells bursting them when they're released
2 of 10
What is a pathogen?
Any organism that causes disease for example: bacteria, viruses and some fungi.
3 of 10
How can a pathogen penetrate an organisms interface?
1) Gas exchange system 2) Skin 3) Digestive System
4 of 10
How does the Gas exchange system protect from pathogens?
The gas exchange system has mucus in the lining of the epithelium, which traps the pathogens and then cilia beat and move the musuc up the trachea in to the mouth where it is removed.
5 of 10
How does the Digestive system protect from pathogens?
The stomach is acidic which will kill micro organisms and enzymes will break down pathogens
6 of 10
How does Skin Protect from pathogens?
When skin is damaged the blood clots at the area of damage to prevent pathogens from entering.
7 of 10
What factors must a micro organism have to be considered a pathogen? (4marks)
1) gain entry to host 2) colonise the tissues of host 3) resist the defences of host 4) cause damage to the host tissues
8 of 10
What does TRANSMISSION mean?
When disease is transferred from one individual to another
9 of 10
When does disease occur?
When infection leads to recognisable symptoms in the host.
