Crude oil is the oil straight from the ground which is made up lots of different compounds mainly hydrocarbons with different boiling points.

Distillation is the process which separates different oils at different temperatures.

Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons which have the maximum number of carbon atoms in, they include methane, ethane, propane and butane.
