1980s- Computer games came into fashion. Psychologists believed that these have a long term damaging impact on childrens development. Thought to cause imitation of the violence displayed. Children were more active and less passive

Cooper and Mackie predicted that playing an aggressive video game compared to other types of games would lead to increased aggression in children. IV-Aggressive game and Non aggressive game. DV- Level of aggression

Sample
84 nine to eleven year olds from schools in new jersey. One week before they filled out a questionnaire. They were paired up in the same sex and age. 1 watch and 1 play

Materials
Condition1- Missile Command Condition2-Pacman Condition3- Pen and paper maze.

Procedure part 1
They had 8 minutes to play the game, 2 extra minutes to familiarise if not played ever before. After, the pairs were split, one child went to the play room and one went to the other room to take a test

Procedure part 2
there were different types of toy... Aggressive toy- Warrior figure. Active toy- Basketball set. Skill toy-Pinball machine and a quiet toy which was building blocks.

Procedure part 3
An experimenter observed what toys were chose and how long they were played with for and the order they were played in.

Procedure part 4
Performed activity to measure their level of interpersonal aggression- how much aggression he or she felt towards another person. Asked to press a buzzer to show level of reward and punishment.

Duration of punishment and reward buzzers. Score for aggression, reward and punishment. using buzzer. Participants then switched rooms. Counterbalancing. Another questionnaire
