What is a correlation?
Measure of how strongly 2 variables are related to each other.
1 of 9
What is a positive correlation?
Means that high values of 1 variable are associated with high values of another variable. They both increase together.
2 of 9
What is a negative correlation?
As 1 variable increases, the other will decrease. High values of 1 variable are associated with low values of another.
3 of 9
What is said if there is no correlation between 2 variables?
They are said to be uncorrelated.
4 of 9
What does a correlation coefficient refer to?
A number between +1 and -1. It states how strong a correlation is. A number close to +1 means there is a positive correlation, whilst a number close to -1 means there is a negative correlation. If the number is close to 0, they are uncorrelated.
5 of 9
What does correlational analysis involve?
Quantitative data.
6 of 9
What is required for a scattergram?
Axis labelled and a title.
7 of 9
What may a scattergram show?
Whether there is a strong positive correlation, a weak positive correlation, no correlation, a weak negative correlation or a strong negative correlation.
8 of 9
What are the issues with scattergrams?
They do not allow us to make conclusions about the hypothesis and cannot demonstrate a cause and effect relationship between variables.
