Cognitive Interview
An interviewing technique developed in 1984 by Geiselman et al. It followed 4 distinct components.

Mental reinstatement of original context
Encourage the viewer to mentally recreate both the physical and psychological environment of the incident.

Report Everything
Encourage the viewer to report every detail of the event without editing anything out.

Change Order
Interviewer tries alternative ways through the timeline of the incident.

Change Perspective
The interviewer is asked to recall the event from different perspectives.

E: Quality may suffer
The CI's effectiveness is largely in terms of quantity of information, rather than quality.

E: Problems with CI in practice
CI takes a lot of time and training to implement.

E: Comparisons are difficult
In the real world, CI is more than one 'procedure' so its difficult to compare and evaluate its effectiveness.
