Chemistry - Electrolysis

?
What is electrolysis?
The process in which ionic substances are decomposed into simpler substances when an electric current is passed through them.
1 of 12
What must occur for electrolysis to happen?
Ions must be free to move.
2 of 12
When is possible for the ions to be free to move?
When the ionic substance is dissolved in water or when melted.
3 of 12
In electrolysis what happens when the positively charged ions move to the negative electrode?
They recieve electrons and are reduced.
4 of 12
In electrolysis what happens when the negatively charged ions move to the posotive electrode?
They lose electrons and are oxidised.
5 of 12
What is the electrolyte?
The upstance that is broken down,
6 of 12
In electroplating what is the negative electrode?
Object that is is electroplated.
7 of 12
In electroplating what is the posotive electrode?
Metal you want to coat the object with.
8 of 12
In electroplating what is the electrolyte?
