Electrolysis is used to seperate compounds using electricity.
1 of 17
Is electrolysis cheap or dear and why?
Electrolysis is dear because it uses alot of energy.
2 of 17
What is it above in the reactivity season that you can use electrolyis?
It has to be above carbon for you to use electolysis.
3 of 17
What can you see/observe when you mix calcium and water together?
It fizzes and goes cloudy. But also it gets warmer and lets off a gas.
4 of 17
How do you test for it?
You can do an experiment were you put electroids in a copper suphate soloution and that should then react and give a copper coating on one of the electroids.
5 of 17
What is displacement?
Displacement is were you can have a reaction e.g. copper chloride+magnesium ans the magnesium is higher than copper in the reactivity series so it will take its place and you will end up with magnesium chloride +copper.
6 of 17
What happens hen you increase the temperature on gases?
they will start moving around more.
7 of 17
What is a physical chnage?
when you can change it back to what it used to be e.g. water freezing you can change it back to water
8 of 17
What is a chemical change?
It is were you cant change something back once it has changed e.g. Frying an egg you cant change it back to an egg once it has fried.
9 of 17
What is another name for rusting?
Corroding.
10 of 17
What can make a nail rust?
Oxygen or Water
11 of 17
How can you prevent rusting/corroding?
You can prevent it by painting it or putting oil on it.
12 of 17
What are 3 types of chemical reactions?
1.burning 2.rusting 3.cooking
13 of 17
Name 3 things you look for in a chemical reaction.
1.change in colour 2.giving off gas 3.change of temperature
14 of 17
What does biodegradeable mean?
A substance that is capable of being decomposed.
15 of 17
What is at the top of the reactivity series?
Pottasium
16 of 17
What is at the bottom of the reactivity series?
Gold
