Nucleus
Contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell.
1 of 30
Cystoplasm
A liquid gel in which most of the chemical reactions needed for life take place.
2 of 30
Cell Membrane
Holds the cell together and controls the passage of substances in and out of the cell.
3 of 30
Mitochondria
Structures in the cytoplasm where most of the reactions for respiration take place. Respiration releases energy that the cell needs to work.
4 of 30
Ribosomes
Where protein synthesis take place. All the proteins needed in the cell are made here.
5 of 30
Cell Wall
Made of cellulose that strengthens and supports the cell.
6 of 30
Chloroplasts
Found in all green parts of a plant. They are green because they contain the green substance chlorophyll.
7 of 30
Chlorophyll
Absorbs light energy to make food by photosynthesis.
8 of 30
Permanent vacuole
A space in the cytoplasm filled with cell sap. This helps to keep the cells rigid to support the plant.
9 of 30
What features do most animal cells contain?
Nucleus, Cytoplasm, Cell membrane, Mitochondria, Ribosomes.

What are some single celled organisms?
Yeast + Bacteria
12 of 30
Most bacteria are less than what in length?
1 μm
13 of 30
Define Bacterial colony
A population of billions of bacteria grown in culture.
14 of 30
What features do most bacteria contain?
Genetic material, cytoplasm, cell membrane, slime capsule, cell wall, plasmids, flagella
15 of 30
Where is the genetic material found?
Not in a nucleus, but in long strands in the cytoplasm.
16 of 30
What do plasmids carry?
Extra DNA.
17 of 30
What a flagella?
A long strand of protein that lashes about.
18 of 30
What is the purpose of the flagella?
To allow the bacteria to move.
19 of 30
Some bacteria is useful, what are some examples of this?
To make yogurt & cheese. Used in sewage and to make medicines.
20 of 30
What features does yeast contain?
A nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall
21 of 30
What size are most yeast cells?
3-4 μm
22 of 30
How does yeast reproduce?
asexual budding
23 of 30
Define asexual budding
When a new yeast cell grow out from the original one to form a separate organism.
24 of 30
What can yeast cell survive with little of for a long time?
oxygen
25 of 30
Bu when they have lots of oxygen what do they do?
aerobic respiration
26 of 30
What are the waste products of aerobic respiration.
water + carbon dioxide
27 of 30
When they have little oxygen what do they do?
anaerobic respiration.
28 of 30
What is the by products of this?
ethanol & carbon dioxide
29 of 30
What can yeast be used for?
Making bread & alcohol
