Where does the sugar in your blood come from?
Food/drink.
1 of 11
Name the organ that monitors and controls your blood sugar level.
The pancreas.
2 of 11
What does insulin do?
It makes the liver remove glucose from the blood and turn it into glycogen.
3 of 11
Before genetically engineered insulin was available, where did we get insulin from? Give one problem with getting insulin from this source.
Insulin used to be extracted from the pancreases of pigs and cows. It used to cause adverse reactions in some people.

The diagram shows how blood sugar level is regulated in humans. From the diagram, identify: Organ A
Pancreas.
5 of 11
The diagram shows how blood sugar level is regulated in humans. From the diagram, identify: Organ B
Liver.
6 of 11
Suggest a reason why blood glucose might rise.
After eating a meal containing carbohydrate/sugar.
7 of 11
What process constantly removes glucose from the blood?
Cellular metabolism/respiration.
8 of 11
What would cause blood glucose levels to fall raidly?
Vigorous exercise.
9 of 11
Describe what the hormone glycogen does.
Glucagon makes the liver turn glycogen into glucose, which is released into the blood.

Some people suffer from type 1 diabetes. Explain what type 1 diabetes is and what it can result in.
