Function of Cytoplasm
The liquid gel part of the cell where the chemical reactions needed for life take place. Found in A,P,Y,B cells
1 of 12
Function of Cell membrane
The part of the cell that controls the movement of materials in and out of the cell. Found in A,P,Y,B cells
2 of 12
Function of the Nucleus
An organelle that controls the activities of the cell, it contains genetic information like the DNA and chromosomes which carry instructions of making new cells. Found in A,P,Y cells
3 of 12
Function of Mitochondria
Structures in the cytoplasm where aerobic respiration takes place. Oxygen is used and energy is released. Found in A,P,Y cells
4 of 12
Function of Ribosomes
Structures in the cells where protein synthesis occurs. All the proteins the cell needs are made here. Found in A,P,Y cells
5 of 12
Function of the Cell wall
A rigid structure made of cellulose which supports the cell. Found in P,Y,B
6 of 12
Function of Chlorophyll
The green pigment found inside Chloroplasts that absorbs light energy for photosynthesis. Found in plant and algae cells
7 of 12
Function of Chloroplasts
Structures found in the cell that contain Chlorophyll for photosynthesis, root cells don't have chloroplasts because they are not exposed to sunlight. Found in plant and algae cells
8 of 12
Function of Permanent vacuole
A space found in the cytoplasm that contains cell sap, important for keeping the cells rigid to provide support. Found in plant and algae cells
9 of 12
Describe a Bacterial cell
They have cytoplasm and a membrane surrounded by a cell wall. They also have genes that are not contained in a distinct nucleus.
10 of 12
Describe a Yeast cell
A single-celled organism, they have a nucleus, cytoplasm and a membrane surrounded by a cell wall.
11 of 12
How do plant and algal cells differ from animal cells?
They contain a cell wall made of cellulose which strengthens the cell, plant cells also contain chloroplasts which absorb light energy to make food (glucose). Plant cells have a vacuole filled with cell sap to also strengthen the cell.
