Glycogen
a storage substance made of glucose, stored in the liver.

glucose
a sugar used in respiration to make energy.

insulin
a hormone (chemical message) that tells your body to change glucose into glycogen.

glucagon
a hormone that tells you to change glycogen back into glucose.
4 of 11
type 1 diabetes
where pancreas produced little/ no insulin, usually identified at a very young age.

type 2 diabetes
where the body no longer responds to insulin or no longer makes enough. usually identified in later life.

homeostasis
the maintenance of a constant internal environment.

thyroid gland
releases thyroxine which controls metabolism

progesterone
produced in ovaries, maintains uterus lining, stops LH and FSH.

Luteinising hormone (LH)
produced in pituitary gland, controls ovulation, usually about day 14 but anywhere between 13-15.

Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
produced in pituitary gland, controls maturation of the egg, released between day 1 and 5 usually day 3.
