Criticisms of Ainsworth (1970)
Strenghts- Lab experiment so it's controlled, High ecological validity, No demand characteristics. Weaknesses- Unethical, Lacks population validity, No natural settings.

What causes one child to be different to another in attachment?
Sensitivity to the mother- Sensitive to babies needs are more likely to produce a securly attached child. Temperament differences in babies- It ca be influenced by their personality, how much time they spend crying, how much they enjoy human company.

Easy babies, Slow to warm up babies and Difficult babies.

Fox (1977)
Babies are cared for in a communal child care, from 4 days old. Parents visit children for 3 hour a day to play and cuddle. Babies in a japanese culture are with their parents, until the age of 2.

Why is Takahashi (1990) so unethical?
The infants would get so stressed, because they aren't used to not being with their parents. It's distressing for parents also.

Why were there no insecure avoident children in Takahashi's study?
Because they were raised and brought up to not act in such a way because it's disrespectful and there not left alone until they are 2 years old.
