What is respiration?
Respiration is the term that describes the metabolic (reaction) pathways that lead to the production of excess ATP in all cells
1 of 5
What is anaerobic respiration?
Anaerobic respiration takes place in the cytoplasm and yields a net gain of 2ATP for each molecule of glucose entering the reactions
2 of 5
What is aerobic respiration?
Aerobic respiration starts in the cytoplasm and carries on in the mitochondria, yielding 38 ATP for each molecule of glucose that enters the reactions
3 of 5
What is ATP?
ATP is a nucleotide consisting of the nitrogenous base ADENINE, the pentose sugar RIBOSE and 3 PHOSPHATE groups
4 of 5
Why is ATP called a universal energy currency?
ATP is called a UNIVERSAL ENERGY CURRENCY because it can be used to supply energy for ALL reactions, to ALL cells in ALL organisms
