Behaviourist Strength
Another strength of the behaviourist approach is that it uses scientific methods of research. This is a strength because the experiments are objective, measurable and observable. An example of this is Bandura's bobo doll study of aggression.
2 of 16
Behaviourist Weakness
One weakness of the behaviourist approach is it ignores the emotional aspects or behaviour. herefore it can be seen as being reductionist in just focusing on observable aspects and ignores internal mechanisms such as biology.

Behaviourist Weakness
Another weakness of the behaviourist approach is the ethical issues raised by using children in experiments. This is because children can not consent to take part and are unable to withdraw.

Psychodynamic Strength
One strength of the psychodynamic approach is that they focused on the effects that childhood experiences have on the developing personality. This is a strength because Freud was the first psychologist to realise the importance of childhood. It also l

Psychodynamic Strength
One strength of the psychodynamic approach is that it takes both nature and nurture into account. This is a strength because it emphasises the importance of both. An example of this is that Freud's assumption of childhood experiences focused on nurtu

Psychodynamic Weakness
One weakness of the psychodynamic approach is that it is unfalsifiable. This is a weakness because the assumptions can not be scientifically measured or proved wrong. An example of this is the idea of the mind being split into three parts.

Psychodynamic Weakness
One weakness of the psychodynamic approach is that it is deterministic. This is a weakness because it suggests that behaviour is pre-determined and people do not have free will. An example of this is the psychosexual stages.

Biological Strength
One strength of the biological approach is that it is very scientific. The experiments used are measurable and can be repeated to test for reliability. Therefore, the researcher has more control over the variables so the IV is not affecting the DV.

Biological Strength
One strength of the biological approach is that it is deterministic. It increases the chance of being able to treat people with abnormal behaviour and explain the causes of behaviour. This understanding can then be used to improve people's lives.
10 of 16
Biological Weakness
One weakness of the biological approach is that it states behaviour is caused by hormones, neurotransmitters and genetics. One theory is that schizophrenia is genetic. Twin studies show that it's not all genetic, but can be environmental influences.

Biological Weakness
Another weakness is that it can't be generalised. This is because not everyone deals with things the same way, for example people deal with grief differently. This reduces the validity of the results.

Cognitive Strength
One strengths of cognitive approach is that it looks at other factors such as memory. This is a strength as other factors such as memory have been found to affect our behaviour. Therefore, it allows us to other look at factors that affect behaviour.

Cognitive Strength
Another strength is that it can be applied to real life settings. This is because cognitive approach has been used for therapy and has been proven to be successful. Therefore, it allows us to help improve irrational behaviour into desirable ones.

Cognitive Weakness
One weakness of the cognitive approach is that it is reductionist. An example of this is that it reduces human behaviour down to individual processes such as memory and attention. Therefore, doesn't allows us to look at other different processes.

Cognitive Weakness
One weakness of the cognitive approach is that it is too mechanical, it compares the human to computers in that they have similar processes. This is a weakness as humans are more complex than computers, for example emotions can affect a humans output
