In 1934 Hitler tried Anschluss- Nazi riots, Dolfuss (Leader) killed by mob, Mussolini stood up to Hitler due to suspicion.

New Austrian leader Schussnigg made a deal with Nazi's. They would support him and he would give them government power.

Second step in bringing Anschluss.
Police raid found plans to overthrow Schussnigg. Nazi demonstrations in towns like Vienna.

Third step in bringing Anschluss.
Panicked Schussnigg met Hitler in his Berchtesgaden to discuss. Hitler intimidated him into putting nazi solicitor Seys Inquart on interior government and liberating captive Nazis while giving nazi's financial power within three days.

Schusnigg planned a plebiscite to allow the Austrians to vote against Hitler.

Hitler postponed the plebiscite- Schusnigg agreed (fear of no support from the big 3). Hitler forced Schusnigg to resign and made Seyes Inqaurt chancellor.

Chancellor stated Austria was in a state of chaos and requested Nazi support. 12 March Nazis peacefully invaded Austria

Hitler held a biased plebiscite and got 99% votes in favour of Anschluss.
