An Inspector Calls Quiz

A quiz on character and theme in the JB Priestley play "An Inspector Calls" for GCSE English Literature. I'm doing the AQA exam but it could be used for pretty much any board that offers this text. Some questions are quite tricky and need to be read carefully. Enjoy!

?
How does Priestley use Eric to create tension before the Inspector arrives?
His random outbursts prove that he's a volatile character and we don't know what he might say or do next.
1 of 4
How does the lighting (described in the opening) add to the drama when the Inspector arrives?
It is described as "harsher and brighter" when the Inspector arrives, like he is putting a spotlight on what the family has done
2 of 4
Why is it important that Act 3 begins exactly as the action was left in Act 2, as if no time has passed?
It's as if the characters aren't allowed any relief between acts, and it keeps the levels of tension high.
3 of 4
How does Priestley present the CHANGING role of women in the period?
Mrs B depends on her husband for support, while Sheila ,as the younger generation, is able to leave the house alone by the end of the play- women were becoming independant.
