Where is the alveoli?
In the lungs containing millions of little air sacs.

What is the alveoli surrounded by?
A network of blood capillaries where gas exchange takes place.

Where does the blood passing next to the alveoli return to?
The lungs from the rest of the body so it contains lots of carbon dioxide and little oxygen.

How does the oxygen diffuse?
Diffuses out of the alveolous (high concentration) into the blood (low concentration).

How does carbon dioxide diffuse?
Carbon dioxide diffuses out of the blood (high concentration) into the alveolus (low concentration) to be breathed out

What happens when the blood reaches body cells?
Oxygen is released from the red blood cells (high concentration) diffuses into the body cells (low concentration). CO2 diffuses out of the body cells (high concentration) into blood (low concentration) & is carried back to the lungs.

In breaths per minute
