All about cell membranes- :)

This quiz is to do with membranes and organelles for OCR biology. Hope it helps....

come back again as i will add more questions :) I have added "i don't know" awnswers to most of the questions so that if you are not sure and don't want to guess incase you get it right and aren't aware of it.

?
What does the plama membrane allow through it?
small or uncharged particles
1 of 19
What aids the larger and charged particles to enter the plasma membrane?
Transporters and protien channels
2 of 19
What organelles produces 2 different compartments inside cells?
Mitochondria
3 of 19
Why does this organelles have two membranes?
To isolate the reactions taking place inside the cytoplasm
4 of 19
What is a two membrane called?
envelope
5 of 19
Some membranes provides attachment for enzymes and other molecules involved in metabolism for example .....
The inner membrane of a mitochondria contains molecules need for the production of ATP
6 of 19
Another example is ...
the inner membrane of a chloroplasts has chlorophyll needed for photosynthesis
7 of 19
All cell membranes have...
have a similar structure and is normally between 7nm and 10 nm
8 of 19
this makes them ...
invisible with a light microscope but visible in a electron microscope
9 of 19
These molecules that make up the membrane has a head and a tail. The head is
Hydrophilic (water loving)
10 of 19
and the tail is ...
Hydrophobic (water hating)
11 of 19
This cause the phospholipids to arrange themselves in a double layer with
heads facing outwards and tails facing inwards
12 of 19
This double layer is called
Phospholipids bilayer
13 of 19
cell membranes are formed from a double layer of moleculecules called _____ ?
Phospholipids
14 of 19
Many lipids and protien molecules in cell membranes have short strings of sugar molecules forming......
Gylcolipids and Glycoprotiens
15 of 19
What is the difference between the outer surface and inncer surface of a plasma membrane?
The outer surface has chains of sugar and carbohydrate - they are part of glycolipid and glycoprotien molecules
16 of 19
what is the cholesterols role in the cell membrane?
helps maintain the fluidity, when the temperature is too high then it stops form getting stiff and when the teperature is too low it stops it from getting too fluid
17 of 19
One of the roles protien and glycoprotien in the cell membrane is to
form channels for hydrophlic substances to pass. The channels can open or close.
18 of 19
One other role is also to
act as receptor sites, allowing specific molecules from outside the cells such as hormones to bind with them to set up a response on the cell

This quiz is absolutely useless. It made me almost cry with hatred towards the maker. I have wasted atleast 30 seconds doing it, which I will never get back. I hope you're happy.
