Why was Russia involved in WW1?
They were Pan-Slavic, and therefore allied with Serbia who faced war with Austria-Hungary due to the assassination. Also, Russia was indebted to France from funding.

Why did Russia's initial mobilisation cause a problem?
This gave Germany an excuse to mobilise; Defense of slavic countries in south-west left Russia vulnerable to attack in West; Russian railway was still inadequate; it was meant to be a deterrent.

Who was Rasputin?
A Serbian mystic healer, who many disliked and blamed for the failings of the war

Why was the murder of Rasputin in December 1915 bad?
It left no one to blame but the Tsar and Tsarina

Why was it a poor tactical move for the Tsar to become Commander-in-Chief?
He left the Tsarina in charge, and he was responsible for any failings of the war

How did the 1917 Revolution occur?
Demonstrators took to the streets demanding bread, and were joined by striking workers. They destroyed Tsarist statues and displayed "Down with the Tsar" banners. It lasted 3 days, with the army mostly supporting the rioters. He abdicated.

The Provisional Government (with members of the 'old guard')

Was the revolution a turning-point in Russian history?
Yes - it caused a complete change in ideology and social class (nobles fled), and was mainly executed by the Proletariat (rather than radicals). The government did not survive.
