Verdicts on the Treaty of Versailles

Germany's reaction 

  • The overall reaction was horror and outrage. 
  • They did not feel they had started the war.  
  • They believed that the government had simply agreed to a ceasefire.
  • They thought Germany should have been at the Paris Peace Conference to negotiate peace.  
  • They were angry  that they were being forced to accept a harsh treaty without any choice or even comment.
  • Ebert, the German leader tried to protest and refused to sign the Treaty,
