The shopping mall was deserted. The guards scratched their heads. Where was everybody?

Outside Bernie's gourmet chip shop in the High Street it was a rather different story. The crowd was all pushing and shoving to get to the door: "Give us battered rat!" they cried. "Give us rat on a stick!".

• The story has moved to the chip shop, so this is a new paragraph.
