Use of colour in La La Land

The colour is a story in itself
The films is very viberant
Chazelle uses the three primary colours allot throughout the film
The colours are like seperate people
Mia and Seb are both at the beginning different people. Mia however, shows more viberancy than Seb as she gets caught up in her Hollywood glamour while Seb stays true to his art
At the pool party, Seb is in Red and Mia is in Yellow. This shows how they are not together, two completely differet colours, two completely different people
In the tap dancing scene, the primary colours are not as seperated due to the high use of purple. This gives the audience a sense of warmth and connection. This mixture of the primary colours continues throughout their relationship
For example, the dark orange in the jazz club, the purple in the observatory and the green when they play…
