The Berlin Blockade and Airlift, 1948-49

At the end of the war, Allies divided Germany and Berlin into 4 different zones (US zone, French zone, British Zone, Soviet union zone, which was in berlin). 

Germanys economy and government was completely shattered by the previous war, the Allies were faced with a serious question which was

Should they continue to occupy Germany or should they try to rebuild it?

• Britian and the USA wanted Germany to recover as they could not afford to keep feeding Germany & they felt that punishing Germany would not help with future peace (this was the same with Woodrow and Llyod George at the Paris Peace conference)

• The French were unsure about helping a broken Germany recover or to leave them weak so they could not attack
