• Works out alternatives to obtaining something pleasurable without repercussions
• ID satisfied but in a way that suits the real world
• REFEREE

SUPEREGO - morality

• Use the morals and values learned from their parents and other influentical people
• Controls impulses of the ID
• Can cause the ego to have goals which are high in morals
• Superego can persuade the ego to aim for perfection…
