- King Harold learnt of Norwegian vicotry at Fulford Gate whilst he and his army waited for invasion from Duke William of Normandy.
- He realised danger the North was in and assembled in 2 days an army of 15,000 men, which included around 3,000 elite troops - Housecarls.
- Led army 185 miles on foot in 4 days.
