Thatcherism and the New Right
Margaret Thatcher (PM 1979-1990) believed passionately in competition and free market, and agreed that government should be limited. Because of this, she has been labeled as a Neo-Liberal. Some Conservative members disagreed with her, and believed that government still had a duty to look after the unfortunate, and to close the gap between the rich and poor.
