Many factors affect your total stopping distance

If you need to stop in a given disance, then the faster a vehicle is going , the bigger the breaking force needed

For any given breaking force the faster you are going, the greater your stopping distance.

If your maximum breaking force isn't enough - you'll go further before you stop
