1. Mann Whitney U: Ollie Is Mean
Use if you've got ORDINAL data and INDEPENDENT MEASURES DESIGN.
- Rank the numbers in each column from lowest to highest. If some numbers are the same then give them the middle value of ranking.
- Add up all the ranks in condition 1= R1
- Repeat for condition 2= R2
- Use formula to find U value (formula will be provided), use the lowest R value for this.
- Find the critical value from the table provided.
- The results are significant if the calculated value (U value)is less than the critical value. If so, you reject the null hypothesis.
2. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test: Ollie Runs Wild
Use if you've got ORDINAL data and REPEATED MEASURES DESIGN.
- Rank the differences in order of lowest to highest, ignoring the positive/ negative signs and values of 0. Do the same as in the other tests if the values are the same.
- Count how many positive figures and how many negative figures there are.
- Add scores of ranked difference if it has the less frequent sign (+/-).
