Seismic waves

There are two types of seismic waves:

  • P-waves move quickly through solid crust and liquid core.
  • S-waves only move slowly through the solid crust.


  • They are longitudinal waves, which means the particles vibrate along the direction of motion of the wave.
  • They travel faster than S-waves.
  • They refact as density changes.
