Causes of the Russian Civil War;
The Civil War was caused by an array of issues such as; Lenin's Actions, the Challenge to Bolshevik Rule, the Famine and the Desire for National Independence...
Lenin's Actions:
- Lenin knew that if Bolsheviks cooperated then it would make successful counter-revolution easier
The Challenge to Bolshevik Rule:
- Social Revolutionarie's (SRs) driven from the government beacuse they opposed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk and refused to sign it
- Attempted revenge by the majority party
- The SRs joined the Whites against the Reds
Famine
- Government faced with loss of Germany to Russia's main supply area
- March 1918 - Treaty of Brest-Litovsk signed
- June 1918 - The workforce in Petrograd shrunk by 60%
