"Strange meeting".
- We notice the similarity of the German soldier and the British soldier 'whatever hope is yours/was my life also'.
- They are both just men forced into a war they don't want to fight 'I am the enemy you killed my friend'.
- They have a shared humanity 'my hands were loath and cold'.
- They are taught to kill each other without emotion: but really they are killing fellow bretheren as they are…
