Context: The poet is focused on the suffering of the poor and child labour. The poet is a pantheist. This means he sees good in everything. Throughout the poem, Blake criticises the church and rich for not helping the poor. This links to "A Christmas Carol" as Dickens also does this in the novel. Because of this, it could be argued that Blake and Dickens share similar ideas about poverty.

Key Points: The poem is set in 19th century London, so throught the poem, the city can be described as an unpleasant place without any sanitation. The poem describes a walk through London and what the poet experiences. The poem is in four stanzas to represent this. Stanza 1 describes what the poet sees on the walk, stanza 2 descrbes what the poet hears on the walk, stanza 3 describes what the poet sees on the walk, plus his views about poverty and stanza 4 describes a mixture of all three aspects…
