Plains Indians beliefs and way of life.

The role of men, women and old people.

  • Men were responsible for hunting, tending the horse and protecting the band (groups of families).
  • Women were responsible for cooking, looking after the children and tipi and making clothes.
  • Old people were valued for their wisdom and experience. 

The horse.

  • Allowed the Plains Indians to be nomadic.
  • Used for transport and warfare.
  • The number of horses you owned was a measure of wealth.
  • Measure of bravery.

The buffalo.

  • Plains Indiand conducted buffalo dance to call the spirits to help them hunt buffalo. 
  • The buffalo was used
