Nixon: Hero or Villian?

Does Nixon deserve praise for his Vietnam policy?
Many historians don't think so as they are very critical of the madman approach to his Vietnam policies, and the fact he prolonged the war for his own political gain.
At the very least he got the American troops out of Vietnam, even if he was criticised for his slowness, but was this out of his own choice? It may have been due to the lack of funding there would have been for the Vietnam war when Congress refused to pay for the loss of lives. Though credit should be given for the retreat of American power from Vietnam.
Had he gained peace with honour?
He had got ground troops out of Vietnam without abandoning Saigon, he had forced Hanoi to agree…
