Explanations of media influences on prosocial behaviour

OBSERVATIONAL LEARNING- We observe media models showing prosocial behaviour and we immiate them. Especially likely because we are likely to be rewarded for these behaviours.

DEVELOPMENTAL FACTORS- It is believed that media displays of prosocial behaviour act on the development of skills required for prosocial behaviours throughout childhood. Therefore younger children would not be effected by prosocial displays in the media because they have not developed skills required for prosocial behaviour.

PARENTAL MEDIATION- Prosocial act on the media are likely to have an effect when a parent is also co viewing, this enables the parent to explain any ambigious behaviour. A follow up discussion has found to be particuarly useful.
