THE MEANINGS OF THE BEATITUDES

• The beatitudes were given to the people to reassure them of God, and to give them hope and happiness

• People still follow them today because the reward is still the same as it was when they were given and if people need hope they might follow them too

BLESSED ARE POOR IN SPIRIT FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN:

• MEANING: LIVE A HUMBLE LIFE, GOD IS CLOSER TO THESE PEOPLE
• TEACHING: LIFE A SIMPLE LIFE, DETACHED FROM WEALTH, CLOSER TO GOD

BLESSED ARE THE MEEK FOR THEY WILL INHERIT THE EARTH:

• MEANING: THE MEEK AND GENTLE ARE SELFLESS, GOD IS CLOSE BECAUSE THEY FOLLOW JESUS' EXAMPLES 
• TEACHING: IF YOU PUT OTHERS BEFORE YOURSELF AND RECOGNISE THE VALUE OF EVERYONE YOU WILL BE REWARDED 

BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN FOR THEY WILL BE COMFORTED:

• MEANING: THOSE WHO MOURN SHOW CONCERN FOR OTHERS. THEY ARE CLOSER TO GOD BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE OF SUFFERING
• TEACHING: IF YOU MOURN BECAUSE OF EVILS IN THE WORLD AND WISH FOR GOD'S WILL INSTEAD HE WILL COMFORT YOU IN HIS KINGDOM

BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR THEY WILL BE FILLED:
