Bowlby suggested that the personality developed between the ages of 0-5, and believes that our relationship with our parents and childhood experiences influence our later relationships and personality development.

Bowlby suggested that the mother as the primary caregiver plays a vital role in determining a healthy relationship/personality. A mother should be loving and caring and if a child is deprived of that meaningful relationship then they could turn to criminality.

He called these people 'Affectionless Psychopathy'. Bowlby said these affectionless psychopaths are a product of unloving relationships with their mothers and because of that have no consideration or empathy for others and are unaware of how to show affection to others, in fact they show no remorse or guilt for their actions
