INTERFERENCE THEORY OF FORGETTING :

In LTM forgetting may occur doe to interference or confusion between old and new memories

THIS DOESNT NECESSARILY MEAN THET THE MEMORY IS LOST OR DECAYED

BUT it may become distorted or changed as a result of conflicting memories

  • is what happens between learning and recall
  • activity before or after learning new info amy cause forgetting
  • It can explain forgetting in LTM and STM
