Problems that occur due to rapid population increase:

  • Over crowding
  • Food and water shortages
  • Not enough health care
  • Fewer education
  • Decrease in natural habitat - We destroy woods, forests and other open areas in order to build homes, schools and health care.

Population growth is found in poor countries such as - China, India and Africa

Most rich countries have stable populations - USA, France

Some countries are going into decline - Japan

Impacts of rapid population growth:

Social impacts -

  • Children die before 1 years old.
  • Death of both mother and child.
  • No education.
  • Lack of healthcare

Political impacts -

  • More crime (in order to get money).
  • Poverty increase.
  • Unemployment.

Environmental impacts -

  • Energy sources are scarce (wood and oil etc).
  • Not enough natural resources (food and water).
  • More people means less resources.

Economic impacts -

  • Have to build so living standards don't deteriate.
