1950 - 2.5 billion people
2012 - 7 billion people
50 years time - 12.5 billion people
Problems that occur due to rapid population increase:
- Over crowding
- Food and water shortages
- Not enough health care
- Fewer education
- Decrease in natural habitat - We destroy woods, forests and other open areas in order to build homes, schools and health care.
Population growth is found in poor countries such as - China, India and Africa
Most rich countries have stable populations - USA, France
Some countries are going into decline - Japan
Impacts of rapid population growth:
Social impacts -
- Children die before 1 years old.
- Death of both mother and child.
- No education.
- Lack of healthcare
Political impacts -
- More crime (in order to get money).
- Poverty increase.
- Unemployment.
Environmental impacts -
- Energy sources are scarce (wood and oil etc).
- Not enough natural resources (food and water).
- More people means less resources.
Economic impacts -
- Have to build so living standards don't deteriate.
