Homeostasis

HideShow resource information

Homestasis regulates the body keeping eveything balanced. This is very important in the body because the if internal condiotons aren't kept in balance, then enzymes and other chemicals would not be able to function properly.

We have a lot of methods to make sure our bodies our kept in balance - some of these are voluntary (we control them) some of them are autonomic (you have no control over them). For example if you are too hot you make remove some clothing (voluntary) and you may sweat (autonomic) to help regulate your bodies tempreture.

Examples include:

  • Body Tempreture
  • Ion content (salt level) on the body, we gain ions in the food we eat and lose them in our sweat and through urine
  • Water content, we gain water through drinking, eating and respiration and lose it through sweating, urine…
