Greek Medicine

The Greeks were successful because of the climate, their location, their ability to trade and because they took over from the Egyptians they gained their medical knowledge.

They had religious beliefs about medicine-
The god of healing was Asclepius and they many Asclepion temples to worship him in. Ill people were taken to Asclepions to be healed in their sleep, the Asclepions also had leisure centres with baths, gyms and stadiums. This remedy may have worked because of the placebo effect, they exercised in the pools and gyms, they could relax and be cleaned in the baths so hygiene was also high. However, overall because this was based on religion instead of scientific knowledge it had a negative impact on medicine.

They had religious beliefs about medicine-
Hippocrates
