Enzymes

?
  • ENZYMES DO NOT DIE - They are not living.
  • ANABOLIC reactions require energy to build bigger molecules - BUILDERS.
  • CATABOLIC reactions require energy to come out - BREAKERS.
  • Molecules that BIND to the enzyme are called SUBSTRATES.
  • The resulting molecules from the reaction are called products.
  • ENZYME-SUBSTRATE complex when they come together.
  • The ENZYMES ARE NOT USED UP during the reaction.
  • The key part of the enzyme is called the ACTIVE SITE.
  • Reactions only take place when substrates fit into the active site of an enzyme.
  • This can be refered to as the lock and key as only a certain key will fit a certain lock, just like a substrate and enzyme.
  • ENZYMES ARE SPECIFIC AND WILL ONLY
