IT - Learning Aim A - Emerging Technologies

What are they?

Every year new devices and ways of using technology. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, natural language processing and computer vision are evolving from being ideas on the drawing board technologies that are changing the way organisations work and individuals live their daily lives.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning

Artificial intelligence  (AI) is the concept of machines being able to carry out tasks in a way that would consider ‘intelligent’

Machine learning – is based on the idea that we should be able to give machines access to data and let them learn for themselves/ the more data a machine sees, the more ‘intelligent’ it will become.

While it is being ‘trained’, for example to control driverless cars it is being corrected constantly being corrected by the human trainer if it makes a wrong decision, while correct decisions are reinforced.

Driverless cars

There are moral and ethical implications involved in the algorithms which control a driverless car. The prospect of large numbers of driverless cars, trucks and buses on our roads raises ethical questions about the morality of different algorithms which could be used in the face of causing unavoidable
