Definition
Electrolysis is the process of splitting a chemical compund using an electrical
current
In electrolysis, a current is passed through an electrolyte
an electrolyte is a liquid/solution that can conduct electricity
A cathode (negative electrode) and an anode (positive electorde) are used
cations (positive) are attracted to the cathode and reduced
anions (negative) are attracted to the anode and oxidised
reduction is the gain of electrons
oxidation is the loss of electrons
