Diffusion is the spreading out of particles (of a gas) or of any substance un a solution. This is the net movement of particles from an area of high concentration to a low concentration. It takes place because of the random movement of particles.
Rates of Diffusion:
If there is a large difference in concentration the movement will be faster as many particles will randomly move towards the are of low concentration, this is a high concentration gradienst - the particles move down the oncentration gradient. If there is a low concentration gradient the particles are moving slower as there isn't as big of a ndifference between the concentrations in the two areas.
The net movement = particles moving in - particles moving out
